After what appeared to be an eternity of bubble finishes and massive suckouts I finally dodged enough landmines to take down a large field MTT (Multiple Table Tournament).I jumped to the early chip lead with a flopped Full House and never looked back. I stacked up 8000 in chips early then merely "Pot Bet" my way to the middle stages. When my first table broke up they sat me next to an equal sized stack and we just sat there picking off the bingo players.
Near the bubble I somehow managed to dodge a major bullet. In the BB 4 players limped to me along with the big stack SB. I flopped a well hidden Full House with a straight and flush draw on the board. I decided to check and let someone catch up. The turn brought the flush and straight card so I checked again. The EP pushes with his slow played AA, a MP player calls with a bottom flush and the SB shoves all the way over the top of me. I tank for a bit not wanting to seem overly excited since the MP player still has chips. Suddenly I see that there is the possibility of a Straight Flush. The SB has been super tight avoiding my stack whenever possible.
I muck my hand and the MP player calls. Yep the SB had the straight flush. Had he slow rolled me he would have taken me out and probably won the tournament outright. He ended up finishing in fourth anyway. But thanks to his over reaction I preserved my stack.
The final table took forever with Bingo pushes and short stack suckouts being the normal course of events. I went from 1st to 5th so many times I almost just pushed with anything at one point. Finally though the two table donks double then tripled me up and there was no way I was going to lose after that. Simply raising from the button every hand and pushing with any ace I whittled the remaining players down to micro stacks. From that point on it was all pot odds.
My opponents played excellent poker and they should all be congratulated for surviving. In these things I consider making the final table a victory.
