I just dropped by (I am in Korea) to remind everyone that early sign ups for this years team begin soon. Get in touch with Coach Travis. I am taking applications for "GroundHogs", "Horsemen", "Kamikazee Line Backers" and uh "Waterboys". The hill has new grass seed and I found some new torture...... excercises to try out come August.
On a personal note:
I would like to extend a deep and sincere thank you to all of the players and parents who came by, sent cards or simply called when my father passed away. It really did mean the world to me to see our young men "Cowboy Up". Thanks guys.
My "Pop" was a great father, coach, inspiration and all around great person. While we will always feel a vacant place inside for his loss I have the priviledge of knowing that he prepared me well for the tasks at hand. My "Pop" was in his heart a teacher, mentor and coach to just about anyone he ever had contact with including me. Sometimes stern, sometimes angry, sometimes frustrated but always with love, compassion and the patience of a saint he managed to teach and touch everyone around him.
Men and Women like "Pop" are the backbone of our country and the foundations of our communities. They go through life quietly, complain little, do great work even when nobody is checking, pay thier bills and never make the front page. They are not the people we idolize but they are the people we should strive to be. They set the stage for those around them to do great things. Their life's work is family, god and country. Thier monuments are memories and the respect of friends and family.
My point is guys: Hug your parents even when you don't want too because no matter what you think they are doing the best they can. Even when everyone is doing the cool thing like smoking, drinking, or breaking out a window and you feel tempted try and remember. Your Dad was your age once, he made the same mistakes (probably bigger) that you are thinking about making. He knows the costs both now and in the future. I am willing to bet that if you caught him alone one day and asked his opinion you would get an honest answer and some good advice.
Thats the coolest thing about Dads.
